Ward 3 alderman Roger Brooks is on the road to recovery after being admitted to Sanford Health Nov. 2.
His wife, Mary, said Brooks, 74, was moved Nov. 10 to Sanford’s rehabilitation unit as he regains strength and mobility from a subdural hematoma sustained while doing yardwork around his home. She said he lost his footing and possibly bumped his head.
On Nov. 6, a port was placed in Brooks and doctors were able to remove some of the clot, which continues to drain.
Mary said her husband initially suffered severe headaches and nausea. A few days later, his speech became jumbled and he lost feeling on his right side, she said. He continues to have memory issues, she said.
Brooks is undergoing in-patient physical, speech and occupational therapy twice daily.
“He’s weak, but he’s sure trying to work at it. He’s already worried about the meetings he’s missing,” Mary said Monday afternoon. “We are so blessed with the support we have received from the community, the city council, our church, neighbors, family, and of course, prayers,” she said.
