‘Safety’ is focus of Saturday’s SVE family-friendly event

From sirens blaring to pancakes flying through the air, there’s something in store for the entire family at the 2025 Sioux Valley Energy Safety Day scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Cooperative’s Brandon Service Center. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the Brandon Service Center, 108 N. Heritage Road in Brandon.
The event will start with a pancake feed served by Chris Cakes. After eating, attendees can visit one of several kids’ activity booths and get up close with emergency responders who will be on hand to demonstrate their equipment and vehicles. Other demonstrations and activities include:
• The SD Farmers Union Farm Safety Trailer will be on hand, complete with an ATV simulator, grain bin harness, interactive games, and a toy-size farm.
• The Brandon Fire Department, Brandon Police Department, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol will be providing safety demonstrations.
• Bicycle safety will be featured thanks to SD EMS for Children. The first 100 kids will receive a free bicycle helmet and fitting.
• Adults will have the chance to have free blood pressure checks provided by the Pipestone County Ambulance crew, along with CPR training and ambulance tours for all.
Minnesota Rural Electric Association will lend their virtual reality learning goggles to our crew, and you’ll be able to test them out.
Don’t forget all the FUN activities including carnival games with prizes, electrical circuit construction, face painting, and balloon animal creations.
Tours of the newly expanded SVE Brandon Service Center will take place during the event as well. Construction on the center began in 2023 and finished in 2024.
