Tim Gjoraas, 45

Tim Gjoraas, 45, of Sioux Falls, S.D. passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021 at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls. He donated his body to USD Medical School, so he can continue to teach. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date and announced on Facebook.

Tim Gjoraas was born April 29, 1975 in Williston N.D. He grew up and graduated high school in Brandon, S.D. Tim then went to USD in Vermillion, S.D., for his undergrad and Masters degrees. While at USD, he was a member of the Signa Epsilon Fraternity. Tim was proud of his work with S.E.R.V.E, especially with Big Pal, Little Pal organization.

After college, he married Nichole Rogers and started his career at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, which became one of his favorite places. Next, Tim started a family and had three wonderful children Alexis, Kia, and Kaden. After Tim and Nichole separated in 2007, he began working at one of his other favorite places Monks, where he shared a passion for craft beer.

Monks is also where Tim met his soulmate, Lisa. The two got married in 2016 and shared a love of travel. Tim is very proud of visiting 43 states and five countries with his family.

Tim was diagnosed with colon cancer in May of 2019, which forced him to retire from his job at Monks and his teaching career in 2020. He was touched by the number of students that made contact with him after he announced his retirement. Tim left a legacy of lifelong learning, passion for life, love for people, travel, and craft beer.

Tim is survived by his wife, Lisa and three children, Alexis, Kia, and Kaden, all of Sioux Falls; his parents, Harlan and Linda Gjoraas, of Brandon; his brother, Travis and wife Nancy; nephews, Evan and Kyle of Grimes, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
