Free kickboxing classes at Circuit Fitness

Circuit Fitness is offering free kickboxing classes from 8-8:45 a.m. on Saturdays during the school year.

Circuit also offers free senior try-it low impact classes. They are offered the first week of the month, Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m.-9:15 p.m.

 

USD State of the

University address is Sept. 19

University of South Dakota President Sheila K. Gestring will deliver her 2024 State of the University Address on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. in Aalfs Auditorium, located in Slagle Hall.

The address is open to the public. For those unable to join in person, the event will also be livestreamed on YouTube.

 

Poker Run to benefit Hoffman family

A Poker Run to benefit the Chase Hoffman family of Brandon is planned for Saturday, Sept. 28. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at Bottoms Up, 25989 482nd Ave., Corson, and the ride starts at 11 a.m. All bikes and vehicles are welcome. There is a $10 fee per rider and per poker hand. There will also be a silent auction.

From Bottoms Up, the ride will go to River Ridge Golf Course, Norby’s Bar & Grill, Baltic Corner, The Wooden Nickel and back to Bottoms Up.

Proceeds from the benefit will help lessen the family’s financial burden, which is a result of a motorcycle vs. car accident on Aug. 18 in Sioux Falls. Chase was hit by a non-insured driver and sustained severe injuries.

 

Freedom Festival at Huset’s Speedway Huset’s Speedway in Brandon will be the host site for Freedom Festival on Saturday, Sept. 21. Freedom Fest will feature three country artists in concert, Cam Allen, Cole Hartley and Kaleb Austin, along with Sioux Falls-based band, Last Call, inflatables, touch-a-truck, face-painting and special appearances from local and national mascots. The first 500 kids will receive a free swag bag. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The night ends with a fireworks show sponsored by Mueller Pallets.

The gates open at 4 p.m. Admission is free for veterans and kids 12 and under, $25 per person general admission or $100 per VIP ticket. Proceeds will go to the Midwest Honor Flight, a non-profit organization that provides veterans with respect, honor and closure with an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
