Military History Night returns for 11th year
Brandon Valley High School history teacher Jeremy Risty will be the featured speaker of the Sunday, Sept. 15 Military History Night program at the Valley Springs American Legion. Risty will talk on the topic, “The Battle at Midway.” Refreshments and time for Q&A will follow.
The program begins at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public to attend.
VS Legion to serve final BBQ of the season
Valley Springs American Legion will serve up their final barbecue fundraiser for 2024 from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
Freedom Festival at Huset’s Speedway Sept. 21
Huset’s Speedway in Brandon will be the host site for Freedom Festival on Saturday, Sept. 21. Freedom Fest will feature three country artists in concert, Cam Allen, Cole Hartley and Kaleb Austin, along with Sioux Falls-based band, Last Call, inflatables, touch-a-truck, face-painting and special appearances from local and national mascots. The first 500 kids will receive a free swag bag. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The night ends with a fireworks show sponsored by Mueller Pallets.
The gates open at 4 p.m. Admission is free for veterans and kids 12 and under, $25 per person general admission or $100 per VIP ticket. Proceeds will go to the Midwest Honor Flight, a non-profit organization that provides veterans with respect, honor and closure with an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

BV Early Childhood Screening is Sept. 26
Brandon Valley School District will conduct its annual Early Childhood Developmental Screening from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at Brandon Elementary School.
Screenings are free for all children from birth to age 5 who live in the BVSD. South Dakota School for the Deaf will also provide free hearing screenings at this time.

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry
Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are laundry detergent (78 oz. bottles preferred), toothpaste and single toothbrushes, shampoo, bar soap, crackers (saltine and snack), cereal, pancake mix and syrup, jams/jellies, canned soups (Pantry has an ample supply of chicken noodle and tomato).
