Supe's On: At Brandon Valley, we celebrate individual differences

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD Superintendent

Practices supporting and promoting inclusion are ongoing in the Brandon Valley School District. From Best Buddies to supporting Special Olympic events, inclusion in K-12 education is crucial for creating a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. Inclusion involves providing equal opportunities for all students, and celebrating individual differences, while operating in a system that includes all individuals regardless of disability. When students feel included, they are more likely to feel valued, respected, and accepted, leading to higher academic achievement and overall well-being.

Inclusion also teaches students valuable life skills such as empathy, respect, and collaboration. It promotes a sense of belonging and community within the school, fostering a safe and welcoming atmosphere where every student can thrive. By creating inclusive classrooms and schools, educators better meet the needs of all learners, including those with disabilities, English Language Learners, and students from diverse backgrounds.

Inclusion not only benefits students academically but also socially and emotionally. It helps break down barriers and stereotypes, promoting understanding and acceptance among students. By promoting inclusivity in K-12 education, we can create learning environments that result in success for all students.
