Prairie Rose awards grants to Brandon groups

Brandon Valley High School senior Nathan Popp was awarded a $1,000 grant from South Dakota Prairie Rose Foundation last week.

Brandon Valley Band Parents, Inc. reps Mike and Karen Beyer were awarded $1,000 for a new PA system from Prairie Rose Foundation.
Prairie Rose Wind LLC, owner of Prairie Rose Wind Farm and subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America, presented annual grants to several area organizations last week, including two Brandon-based groups.
The presentation, which took place March 19 at the Garretson Fire Department, included a $1,000 grant to Brandon Valley Band Parents, Inc. for a PA system, and $3,000 to B-Squad Rescue for a new intake room for arriving dogs.
Scholarships were awarded in the amount of $1,000 to Nathan Popp, Brandon Valley High School, and Hayden Pierret and Keara Beck, both of Garretson High School.
The foundation has agreed to provide $40,000 per year for 20 years toward community grants and scholarships in the townships of Logan, Highland, Edison and Brandon.
Since 2014, Prairie Rose has granted $238,188 to community projects and scholarships.
Grants were also awarded to Dell Rapids Public Schools, $2,000; Garretson Fire Department, $3,000; Garretson Ambulance, $3,000; Blue Dragon Foundation, $3,000; Dell Rapids Fire Department, $3,000; Garretson Community Fund, $2,000; Garretson Childcare Corporation, $15,000; and Garretson Public School, $3,000.
Prairie Rose board members are Steven Munk, president; Steve Howe, vice president; Angela Bly, secretary; Wayne Liester, treasurer; Tom Elverson; Kim Beiningen; Dale Zweep; and Mike Siemonsma.
