Kali Johnson,16, of Canton, and formerly of Brandon, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021. Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Bethany Reformed Church in Canton. Interment will follow at Grandview Covenant Cemetery in rural Larchwood, Iowa. Memorial visitation, with family present to greet friends, will be from 4 until 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. Following the graveside service, all are invited to a dinner and time of fellowship in celebration of Kali’s life at the Canton Barn, 28079 481st Ave., Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Kali was born April 23, 2005, in Brandon to Julia Travis and Kasey Johnson, and moved with her family to Canton in 2013. When Kali was 7, her brother Jett was born, and from the beginning there was nothing more important to her in this world than him. Whether she was playing with him, helping with his business ventures, or just hovering over him as protector, their bond was unique among siblings.

Our 16 years with Kali were filled with love, sweetness, and excitement. She found joy in simple mischief, recognized every opportunity for spontaneous kindness, and always looked out for those around her.

She loved listening to music or lounging with her friends, and spent her time drawing and painting, singing worship songs with her mother, cruising, longboarding, and planning what everyone else was going to do. She drew beautiful sketches, organized trip itineraries for her family’s adventures, kept detailed Christmas lists for those she loved, and filled notebooks with poems and ideas. She set goals relentlessly and always encouraged herself to do better and to grow in every area of her life.

Kali was a member of the Youth Group of Bethany Reformed Church, and her church family embraced her as she blossomed in her faith. We will miss her as long as we live.

In Heaven, Kali is welcomed by her great-grandparents, Diane Eidsness, Arlin Mueller, Ruth and Martin Johnson, Phyllis and Bernard Reifers; grandmother, Tammy Granum Travis; uncle, Sam Travis; and great-uncle, Tony Travis.

Left here on Earth until Jesus welcomes them into eternity are her little brother, Jett Johnson; her mother, Julia Travis (Rob Joachim) of Canton; father, Kasey Johnson of Brandon; great-grandparents, Harry Eidsness of Canton and Charlotte Mueller of Sioux Falls; grandparents, David Travis of Sioux Falls, Debbie Travis (Robert Schneidewind) of Brandon, and Carl and Melinda Johnson of Brandon; uncles and aunts, Chris (Jen) Binkerd, Melissa Travis, James Travis, Ben Travis, Sara (Jacob) Hauser, Kennedy Granum, Keith Travis, Felicity (Dale) Ebright, Micah Johnson, Brenna (Chad) Carlson, and many cousins, friends, and loved ones.
