John P. Ring, 73

John P. Ring, 73, of Brandon, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, at Ava’s House Hospice in Sioux Falls, S.D. His memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Brandon Valley Assembly of God in Brandon and will be livestreamed. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon. Masks will be required for both the visitation and the memorial service.

John Paul Ring, son of Samuel and Mary (Gava) Ring, was born June 19, 1947 in Maryville, Mo. He was united in marriage with Yvonne Summers on Aug. 21, 1970 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He made it a priority to share joy every day of his life. Whether it was whistling while he worked, telling terrible “dad jokes” or performing magic tricks for kids, his zeal for life was contagious.

From his humble beginnings, John proved that with hard work and determination you can achieve anything you set your mind to. He was a graduate of the University of Sioux Falls and fully embraced the generational ideation that hard work defined your character. John worked well into his retirement years at Casey’s in Brandon after retiring from the banking industry.

John always gave his time for the betterment of the community and those around him. He volunteered for multiple organizations through his life and would give the shirt off his back to his friends and family. Over his lifetime, John and his wife of 50 years, Yvonne, played secret Santa for many friends and family who were in need.

He was quite the entertainer as well. John was always the life of any gathering. Whether he was dancing with Yvonne or showing everyone how to “Pump Up the Jam”, John was the centerpiece of any social gathering. He also enjoyed the stage as part of the Mighty Corson Art Players for years and had leading roles in several productions.

John will be cherished in memories forever and will live on through all of the lives he touched. We wish to celebrate his life in the same manner he lived it, with optimism and energy. John was a devout Christian and knew that his passing was not an ending, but rather the beginning of a wonderful new chapter.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Sarah Schulz and her husband, Nick, Bennington, Neb., Joshua Ring and his wife, Yung, Sioux Falls; five grandchildren, Phoenix Ring, Raistlin Ring, Fable Ring, Nicholas Schulz, Olive Schulz; and many other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne, on Sept. 17, 2020; his parents; a brother, Wes Ring; and a sister, Linda Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of John to Brandon Valley Assembly of God. Online guestbook and livestream link at georgeboom.com.
