Tim Wakefield Jr. is the third Ward 3 resident to submit an expression of interest form for the now-vacant Ward 3 chair on the Brandon City Council. Wakefield, a process engineer, who resides at 1820 N. Plum Ave., handed in his application last week.
Two other Ward 3 residents – Chuck Parsons, 600 N. Yellowstone Drive, and James Starzl, 1405 E. Rushmore Drive, submitted expression of interest forms prior to Dec. 22.
The council vacancy was created when Alderman Roger Brooks resigned his position due to health reasons.
Mayor Larry Beesley has the power to appoint Brooks’ replacement, which will be announced at the council’s Jan. 15, 2018 meeting. The mayor and council, however, will first meet with each applicant following their Jan. 11 briefing meeting.
The appointed person will fill the vacancy until May 7, 2018.
Interested Ward 3 residents have until 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5 to submit expression of interest applications, which are available at City Hall, on the city website (cityofbrandon.org) or may be emailed by request.
Any Ward 3 resident interested in serving the remaining two years of Brooks’ term will need to file a nomination petition. If more than one petition is filed, the Ward 3 council representative will be decided in an April 10 election by registered voters in that ward.
