Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Garry, 85

Veronica “Ronnie” Garry, 85, of Kennesaw, Ga., passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2023. 

Ronnie was born on May 8, 1937, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Paul and Charlotte (Keene) Ortega. She grew up in Northern California under the care of her grandmother, Mabel Keene, and foster parents, Mary Liz and Andy Carrino. After graduation from George Washington High School in San Francisco, Calif., she worked at MetLife Insurance Company and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957 in San Diego, Calif., where she met her husband, Lester Garry from Salem. Veronica and Lester were married in 1958 and were blessed with four children: Michael, Anne, James, and Glenn. After raising her family, Ronnie went to work for the Capital Journal in Pierre. She then earned her Associate Degree in Business. Later, she earned another degree in Cosmetology and worked as a hairstylist for 17 years in Brandon. She then worked at Luverne Truck Equipment before retiring in 1999. Ronnie lived in Brandon from 1977 to 2005 and then moved to Greenfield, Ind., until moving to Kennesaw in 2007.

Ronnie loved to stay active through her volunteer work at the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store in Kennesaw for over 15 years, where she enjoyed being involved with other generous people.

Along with her parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, and her 13 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her four loving children, Michael Garry (Mary Belanger) of Long Beach, Calif., Anne Garry-Sherman (Bill Sherman) of Dallas, Ga., James Garry (Karen Wiersma), of Granger, Ind., and Glenn Garry (Laurie Wright) of Newbury Park, Calif. Ronnie was very proud of her nine grandchildren, Megan (Thomas Hunter), Shelli, Sean, Emily, Brian, Molly, Anthony, Peter and Christopher. She is also survived by many friends.

Ronnie will be buried next to Lester at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Salem on April 28, 2023.
