Two file for vacant ward 3 council seat

Staff reports
Just days after the Brandon City Council regretfully accepted Roger Brooks’ resignation as a Ward 3 representative, two residents have applied to fill the temporary term.
As of Dec. 22, Chuck Parsons, 600 N. Yellowstone Dr., and James Starzl, 1405 E. Rushmore Dr., have both submitted applications.
Health issues led Roger Brooks, 74, to step down from his council post earlier this month.
Mayor Larry Beesley has the power to appoint Brooks’ replacement. Interested Ward 3 residents have until Jan. 5, 2018, to submit their application. Forms are available at City Hall, on the city website or may be emailed by request.
Beesley will announce his appointment at the council’s Jan. 15, 2018, meeting, and that individual will serve through the first meeting in May. Ward 3 residents interested in serving the remaining two years of Brooks’ term must file a nomination petition. If more than one petition is filed, the Ward 3 council rep will be decided by only Ward 3 registered voters.
