The Lady Lynx faced a pair of powerhouse teams last week on the home court, and unfortunately, came away on the downside of the 3-0 outcomes.
On the team’s annual Dig Pink Night, designed to bring awareness and generate funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a local family, Class AA’s top-ranked Harrisburg (15-1) defeated the Lynx 20-25, 22-25, 22-25.
Despite the setback, Lynx head coach Dacia Boehrns was upbeat about the team’s performance.
“We just didn’t roll over die and fall apart,” Lynx head coach Dacia Boehrns said. “We continued to fight, even though they’re pretty high up in state standings and rankings. We gave it a good effort and had a chance to snag a win, but we didn’t do that.”
Paige Timmons and Macyn Flanigan did their usual damage in BV’s net attack. Timmons fired 15 and Flanigan accounted for six kills and four blocks. Avery Myers set up 51 assists.
The backrow effort was led by Ella Simonson and Brooke Lunstra, who registered 18 and nine digs, respectively. Anna Reinschmidt had a solo ace serve.
Madison Wassink had nine kills and 21 digs for Harrisburg; Carlie Fikse accounted for eight kills and five blocks. Avery Thorson had 30 set assists and Rachel Nelson delivered a trio of ace serves.
The competition didn’t get any easier for the Lynx on Saturday, as fourth-ranked Aberdeen Central (13-4) reeled off three straight sets, 17-25, 21-25, 11-25.
“They’re the same, kind of as Harrisburg,” Boerhns said. “It was the same thing and we had an opportunity,” she said.
That opportunity was a 15-7 lead the Lynx had built, but Brandon Valley’s continued troubles with serve receive allowed the Golden Eagles to out-score the Lynx 10-1.
“We tried to make substitutions, take some people out, but it just threw us off,” Boehrns said.
Abby Risty led the net attack with eight kills, while Timmons and Flanigan each offered seven to the cause. Flanigan also produced nine digs, a block and two ace serves. Timmons was credited with a solo block. Ella Simonson had 19 digs and Myers had 48 assists.
For Aberdeen, Paiton Burckhard and Melia Mounga had 11 and eight kills, respectively. Burckhard also had nine digs and eight ace serves. Mounga had a hand on six blocks. Laura Babcock had 16 digs and Haylee Mork provided 26 set assists.
The Lady Lynx travel to Brookings for a 2:30 p.m.
