Scouting for Food is this Saturday

The Brandon area Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be in your neighborhood Thursday night (Oct. 21) and Saturday morning, Oct. 23 for their annual Scouting for Food Event helping the Brandon Area Food Pantry.

Boys will deliver door hangers regarding the event on Thursday and residents are asked to leave bags of non-perishable food items on front porches/steps and on Saturday morning. Starting at 9 a.m.., the Scouts will pick up these donations and deliver them to the BAFP.

 

BV Optimist Community Christmas Tree program

Brandon Valley Optimist Club is in its 13th year of providing Brandon area families a little extra help around the holidays. The organization anonymously collects Christmas gifts and household items at trees located at various Brandon businesses.

City sponsoring free leaf drop-off days

The City of Brandon is sponsoring its 2021 free leaf drop-off days on Saturdays, Oct. 23, Nov. 6 and 20.

Residents may bring bags/cans of leaves and leaf mulch to the McHardy Park parking lot (note change of location) from 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. and dump them into receptacles furnished by Marv’s Sanitary Service. Only leaves and mulch will be accepted and leaves must be in cans or bags. No branches, loose leaves or tarps will be accepted.

Trick-or-Treat on the Trails Oct. 30

Dress in your favorite Halloween costume and trick-or-treat in the campground at Big Sioux Recreation Area, 410 Park St., Brandon, from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30. The event begins near the picnic shelter and a valid South Dakota State Park entrance license is required.

 

Halloween Candy Buy Back program

Wehrkamp Dentistry, 117 E. Holly Blvd., is once again organizing a Halloween Candy Buy Back event from 3-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1 and 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Wehrkamp will pay $1 per pound up to 5 pounds and candy will be sent to troops serving overseas.
