It’s time to “spring ahead” as Daylight Saving Time starts at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 11.
Brandon City Council candidate forums
Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and the Brandon Valley Journal are teaming up to host the Brandon city council Ward 1 and 3 candidate forum. The forum begins at 6 p.m. Monday, March 12 in the Council Chambers. Written questions may be submitted prior to the forum by emailing editor@bvjournal.info or kim@brandonvalleychamber.com. Questions in written form will also be accepted the night of the forum.
The municipal election is April 10.
Absentee voting starts March 26
Unable to cast your vote in the April 10 municipal election? Ward 1 and 3 voters in Brandon may begin voting by absentee ballot on Monday, March 26 at City Hall, 304 S. Main Ave.
For those who need to register to vote, the deadline is 5 p.m. March 26.
Two openings on BV Board of Education
Petitions for two open positions on the Brandon Valley Board of Education may be picked up starting April 10. Nominating petitions are available at the BV Administration Center, 300 S. Splitrock Blvd., during weekday business hours. The filing deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, May 11.
The terms of Gregg Ode and Sandy Klatt expire this June. Ode has a 12-year history on the board and Klatt has served six years.
The school board election is Tuesday, June 12.
Nominations sought for Teacher of the Year
Brandon Valley School District and First National Bank are once again partnering to recognize the Brandon Valley Teacher of the Year for the 2017-18 school year. Parents, students, and staff are encouraged to submit nominations.
Nomination forms are available at any school office, the Brandon Valley Administration Center or may be downloaded from the district website. Two letters of recommendation must be submitted with the nomination form.
