BV Optimist Community Christmas Tree
The Brandon Valley Optimist Club is accepting applications for its ninth annual community Christmas Tree project. Contact Brandon Pharmacy at (605) 582-6000 or email jenwullstein.gmail.com by Nov. 18 to sign up.
 
Brandon Senior Citizens 
The Brandon Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. every other Thursday at the Brandon VFW. The group also enjoys a $6 meal every third Thursday of the month at 12 p.m. at the VFW. 
 
Free movie screening  
The public is invited to watch A Place at the Table, a documentary film on hunger in America, from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at Brandon Lutheran Church, 600 E. Holly Blvd. All ages are welcome. Donations for the Brandon Area Food Pantry will be accepted. 
 
Dinner theatre in Garretson 
The Jesse James Players are staging a holiday mystery dinner theatre, “The Golden Girls,” at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8 and 9, at the American Legion in Garretson. Friday is a spaghetti dinner and dessert for $20; a grilled steak dinner and dessert are paired with Saturday’s show for $30.

Leaf drop-off Nov.18
Brandon residents may drop off leaves and mulch 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Sunshine Foods parking lot. 
 
VS feather party
Charles R. Doman American Legion Post 131 in Valley Springs will host its annual feather party at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the post home. The Legion Auxiliary will sell concessions. Bingo and other games of chance will be played.
 
101st Airborne Division is Nov. 19 military topic
The public is invited to hear retired Col. Clancy Matsuda speak on the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne division at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Valley Springs Legion hall. 
 
 
 

Military history programs are presented by Post 131 every third Sunday. There will be no December program. 
 
 
 
 
 
Valley Springs' city brush site open
Valley Springs residents may bring leaves, grass clippings and branches to the city brush site. The site is open 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays, and 4-7 p.m. Tuesdays. 
Residents are asked to trim their trees to at least 15 feet above the street or alley and trim bushes back from the alley by Nov. 18. After that time, the city will trim trees and bushes and the associated costs will be billed to the resident.
 
BAFP’s November needs
The Brandon Area Food Pantry needs for November are taco sauce, Pop Tarts stuffing, flour, sugar, pancake mix and syrup, and assorted canned pie mix.
Before donating food, please check expiration dates. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
The BAFP is open 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 406 Main Ave. To learn more, call 605-582-7001.

Give cans to the Lions 
The Brandon Lions Club welcomes donations of aluminum cans, which help fund requests for vision and hearing impairment needs. Cans may be dropped off at the Lions shed in the Sunshine Foods parking lot, Brandon. 
 
Brandon Transit 
Brandon Transit is a public transit system and offers rides to all ages for local activities and appointments including school programs, medical appointments, shopping, daycare and employment.
The cost is $1.50 per one-way ride. Anyone over 60 years old may donate.
Brandon Transit runs from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday year-round.
