Free summer lunches for kids 18 and under are distributed every Wednesday through Aug. 10 from 11:15 a.m.-noon at Brandon Lutheran Church, 600 E. Holly Blvd.

July 7 is pet vaccination clinic in Valley Springs

The City of Valley Springs’ annual pet vaccination clinic is scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at the city maintenance shop, 308 Broadway Ave. Vaccinations will be administered by Rock Veterinary Clinic. Annual city pet licenses may also be purchased at that time.

 

Brandon Township schedules open house

Residents of Brandon Township are invited to the open house on Saturday, July 8 to tour the Township’s new storage building, located at the intersection of 260th Street and 483rd Avenue in Corson. Light refreshments will be provided at 12 p.m., followed by the summer meeting of the township board.

 

Chamber ribbon cuttings this month

The Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce has a number of ribbon cuttings scheduled for July. On the calendar is the ribbon cutting and grand opening for BluMoon Mercantile, 517 N. Splitrock Blvd. for 4 p.m. Friday, July 8; Barks and Rec, 704 S. Eighth Ave., for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13; Mighty Corson Art Players’ 40th anniversary, Corson Playhouse, 25993 482nd Ave., for 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16.

As always, the public is encouraged to attend these events.

 

Oakridge After Dark is July 8

Oakridge Nursery and Landscaping will host Oakridge After Dark, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, July 8. The event includes the showing of the movie, “A Bug’s Life,” in the courtyard, beginning at dusk. Attendees should bring their own chairs and Oakridge will supply the popcorn. Oakridge will also offer 20 percent off moonlight garden plants for outdoor spaces.

 

Booster Days Pancake Breakfast is Sunday

Valley Springs American Legion will be serving up a pancake breakfast Fundraiser from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, July 10. On the menu is French toast, sausage links, scrambled eggs, orange drink, water and coffee. A free will donation will be accepted with profits to be used to retire the heating and cooling upgrades. 

 

July needs at the Brandon Food Pantry

July needs at the Brandon Area Food Pantry are canned carrots, Manwich, boxed Jello and pudding, egg noodles, pickle relish, chili beans, tooth paste, and dog and cat food.

Pantry clients must be vaccinated and wear a mask to shop the Pantry. If not vaccinated, clients will receive items that have been pre-bagged by BAFP volunteers.

To make appointments for either pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

BAFP executive director Linda Weber asks groups that conduct food drives to contact the Pantry prior to dropping off donations.

Used eye glasses and hearing aids for the Brandon Lions Club may also be dropped off at the BAFP.

 

 

Jacob Mulder Memorial Game

The Valley Rats amateur baseball team will host the Harrisburg Hops for the Jacob Mulder Memorial Game at First National Bank Field in Brandon beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14.

The night is dedicated to remembering Jacob Mulder, co-founder and player for the Valley Rats, who sadly died as the result of an automobile accident.
