City flushing water mains

The city of Brandon is flushing water mains through mid-June or until it has been completed.

Flushing hydrants is needed to ensure they are in properly working condition for fire protection and to remove any mineral deposits that may have accumulated in the water mains.

Residents may experience a change in water flow patterns resulting from hydrant flushing, which may also stir up mineral deposits in home services.

Residents may also experience discolored water, pressure change and/or an increased chlorine odor. Residents are advised to exercise care in their laundry operations and to check the water for clarity before use.

Motorists should also stay clear of the streams of water coming from the hydrants.

Lawn watering alert

Brandon is currently in stage 1 lawn watering guidelines. Users with even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered calendar dates and vice versa for odd-numbered addresses who may warter odd-numbered calendar dates. No watering is allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Sobriety checkpoints planned for June

Sobriety checkpoints are planned for 15 counties statewide this month.

June checkpoints are scheduled for the counties of: Brookings, Clay, Codington, Davidson, Day, Edmunds, Jackson, Jerauld, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington, Spink, and Wal-worth.
