Scouting for Food
Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be in your neighborhood Saturday, Oct. 28, to collect items for the annual Scouting for Food event to benefit the Brandon Area Food Pantry.
Bags of non-perishable food items may be left on front steps/porches for the Scouts, who will begin picking up at 9 a.m. Scouts will also leave door hanger reminders in neighborhoods Thursday. 
 
Swedona Church 
Harvest Festival
Swedona Covenant Church, 25843 479th Ave., rural Brandon, will host its annual harvest festival at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, featuring the One Way Quartet. Free will donations accepted. 
 
Water needs taskforce 
The city of Brandon is seeking residents to serve on a water needs taskforce. If interested, email Alderman Don Wells at dwells@brandonsd.com or Mayor Larry Beesley at lbeesley@brandonsd.com prior to the City Council’s Nov. 6 meeting. 
 
Scary Chili Cook-off
Brandon American Legion Post 318 is brewing up some pre-Halloween fun with its first Scary Chili Cook-off, set for 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Brandon VFW. 
Each contestant should provide a large crockpot, which will be voted on by the public via monetary donations in voting boxes.
The winner will receive a $50 American Legion cash raffle ticket, trophy and bragging rights.

Leaf drop-off days set
Brandon’s leaf drop-off days are Saturday, Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov. 18. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., residents can bring bags and cans of leaves and leaf mulch to the Sunshine Foods parking lot. Marv’s Sanitary Service will have dumpsters on site. Branches will not be accepted.
