Filing period opens Friday for Brandon, Valley Springs
The filing period for the Brandon City Council and Valley Springs City Commission opens Friday and closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22. Voters, if an election is warranted, will go to the polls Tuesday, April 9.
In Brandon, the position of mayor, currently filled by Paul Lundberg, is the first of four council vacancies. There are also three council chairs up for grabs: Ward 1 has one available chair, and Ward 2 has two. Those positions are currently held by Brett Bastian (Ward 1) and Dana Clark and Jo Hausman (Ward 2).
In Valley Springs, the position of mayor, now served by Carl Moss, is open.
Nominating petitions for both communities are available at their respective City Halls.
 
Christian Women’s Connection organizing
Interested in a gathering of food, fun and friendship? Christian Women’s Connection for the Brandon area is being organized and the first event is tentatively scheduled for April.  
Plans for the group’s inaugural event will be made at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28 in the Lodge Room at Tailgator’s in Brandon. 
Christian Women’s Connection is a branch of Stonecraft Ministries, a non-denominational organization, and is open to women of all ages.
Gatherings will be held monthly and will include food, a special theme with decorations and speakers.

BAFP’s January needs
The Brandon Area Food Pantry needs for January are Suddenly Salad, Spam, bottles of juice, canisters of Kool-Aid, Styrofoam plates, napkins (160-count).
Before donating food items, please check expiration dates. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
The BAFP accepts used eye glasses and hearing aids on behalf of the Brandon Lions Club.
The BAFP is open 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 406 Main Ave. To learn more, call 605-582-7001.
