Brandon fall rummage sale time

Registrations are being accepted for Brandon’s ninth annual fall rummage sales on Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25. There is a $10 fee and registration and payment must be received by Wednesday, Aug. 15.

BV Beginning Band Camp

Beginning Band Camp for Brandon Valley band students – 150-plus strong, the largest in the history of the BV School District – will be held Aug. 15-17 at BV Intermediate School. There is no fee or registration to participate.

Rehearsal has been divided into three sessions: 1-1:45 p.m. – Percussion (BVIS Commons), alto/tenor saxes (BVIS band room), trombones (BVIS chorus room); 2-2:45 p.m. – Tubas (commons); clarinets (band); trumpets (chorus); 3-3:45 p.m. – baritones (commons); flutes (band); and French horns (chorus).

All incoming band students are encouraged to participate. Students will need to have their band instrument and books by the beginning of band camp.

LSS seeks BV mentors

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota is partnering with the Brandon Valley School District to bring volunteer mentors to the elementary, middle and high schools. Mentors visit with students for one lunch period per week and read, play board games or just talk.

Fifteen BV students are waiting for a mentor for the 2018-19 school year. Mentors must be at least 18 years old and able to spend one hour a week volunteering during the school day.

Volunteers must complete an application, pass all background screens and attend training.
