Brandon to host

Special Olympics Spring Games

The Southeast Area Special Olympics Spring Games will be held at the Brandon Valley High School Stadium from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30. 

The Southeast Area includes athletes from Brandon, Brookings, Canton, Madison, Mitchell, Parkston, Sioux Falls, Vermillion, Yankton and surrounding communities. An estimated  276 Special Olympians will be taking part in the Games.

 

Star Wars fun to be had at the Brandon Library

Brandon Community Library is hosting a Star Wars event from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30. Participants will prepare for “May the Fourth” by making balloon light sabers in addition to other fun Star Wars crafts and activities while supplies last.

 

BVFD brings Dueling Duo to Brandon this Friday, Saturday

The spring fundraiser for the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department – Dueling Duo – is set for Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30 at the Holiday Inn Express in Brandon. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8.

Celebration shredding event returns

Celebration United Methodist Church, 500 N. Pasque Flower Trail, Brandon, will once again host a document shredding event from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 7. A donation of $5-10 per box donation is suggested. Staples, paperclips and folders need not be removed.

 

Brandon Historical Society to begin

presentations

The Brandon Historical Society will be giving bi-annual presentations on various historical topics. The first presentation is planned for 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22 in the community room at Brandon Valley High School. Refreshments will be served.

 

Two positions open on BV School Board

The filing period for two openings on the Brandon Valley Board of Education is open through 5 p.m. Friday, May 13. Nominating petitions may be picked up at the Central Office, 300 S. Splitrock Blvd., 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The chairs of longtime board member Renee Ullom and Dr. Gregg Talcott are up for election. Talcott has announced that he will not be seeking re-election, while Ullom has said she is seeking another term.
