March 29 forum set for Brandon mayor,

Ward 1 candidates

The Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and the Brandon Valley Journal will jointly host a mayor and Ward 1 candidate forum beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 in the Brandon City Council Chambers. Voters who wish to submit questions prior to the forum may do so by emailing them to editor@brandonvalleyjournal.com. Questions will also be accepted the evening of the forum.

Voters are encouraged to attend the forum, which may also be viewed via Facebook Live on the BV Journal’s Facebook page that evening and will be aired on the Alliance channels 18 and 21 at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 2 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 3.

Boys State applications now being accepted

Brandon Valley High School juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply for the American Legion-hosted Boys State on May 30-June 2 at Northern State University in Aberdeen. Apply online at southdakotaboysstate.com. May 1 is the deadline to apply. 

 

Nominations sought for BVSD ‘Teacher of the Year’

Do you know an exceptional teacher who is inspiring, devoted and making a difference? Then nominate them for Brandon Valley’s 2022 Teacher of the Year award.

Nominations for BV’s Teacher of the Year will be accepted from parents, students and staff. The educator must have taught in the BVSD for at least five years. Nomination forms are available in any of the school building offices, on the BVSD website or the BV Administration Center. Forms must be submitted with two letters of recommendation no later than Monday, April 4 at any BV school of the Administration Center.

The Teacher of the Year will be announced at the BV Employee Recognition Banquet on Tuesday, May 3.

 

March needs at the BAFP

March needs at the Brandon Area Food Pantry are Manwich, Suddenly Salad, cookies, mustard, saltine crackers, bottled juice, Knorr Sides (rice and noodles) and Styrofoam plates.

At this time, the BAFP has a good supply of canned vegetables (i.e., peas, corn, carrots, all varieties of beans) and soups, both cream and other varieties.

To make appointments for either pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
