Supe's On: Youth mentors have positive impact on BV kids

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent
There is a variety of youth mentoring programs in our area. As January serves as National Mentoring Month, I would like to thank all the individuals that volunteer their time as a mentor for our youth. I am very proud to say the Brandon Valley School District has multiple employees that serve as mentors to our local youth.
Serving as a youth mentor can have an incredible impact on a child. Research demonstrates that a student with a mentor is 55 percent more likely to enroll in college, 81 percent more likely to participate in extracurricular activities, and 78 percent more likely to volunteer in the community. I commend the commitment of all current youth mentors and the positive impact they have on the lives of our youth. In addition, there is a need for additional youth mentors within our community. If you are interested in youth mentoring and would like additional information contact Mentoring@LssSD.org.
To all the individuals volunteering their time to mentor a local youth – thank you!
A special thank you to First National Bank for operating their community card program and supporting our school district. The community card program helps support district-wide initiatives like “The Lynx Way” and “Reading Lynx”.
Lastly, the 2018-19 academic calendar has been adopted and is available online at the district’s homepage under the Central Admin Tab.
Go, Lynx!
