Supe's On: Time to register kids for kindergarten screening

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent
The elementary schools of the Brandon Valley School District are accepting registrations for Kindergarten Screening. A child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2018 to be eligible to start kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year. Please, contact your respective elementary attendance center for more information and to register for Kindergarten Screening.
As previously reported, we are engaged in a strategic planning process. The development of the district’s strategic plan began last spring with the collection of parent and patron feedback. In addition to administering a survey and holding a public meeting, focus groups representing our students, parents, teachers, administration, and classified employees have been engaged through the strategic planning process.
The following are a few of the areas the Focus Groups have collectively identified as opportunities for growth within the Brandon Valley School District:
• Elementary (K-4) STEM curriculum/instruction
• Post-secondary career education/exploration
• Increased district-wide teacher collaboration opportunities
As the strategic planning process continues to move forward, we will begin formulating frameworks, action plans, and timelines for the successful implementation of our district’s strategic plan. Ultimately, the strategic planning process encourages active participation as our district continually strives for improvement and excellence in education. A special thank you to all the individuals that have participated in our process thus far.
Lastly, a quick reminder that the purchase deadline for second semester bus passes is Jan. 12.
Go, Lynx!
