Supe's On: Solid P-T conference turnout proves parents, guardians care

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent
We want to thank all the parents and guardians that recently attended our fall parent-teacher conferences! Overall, we had an excellent turnout. This is great news, because kids need an adult that is interested and engaged in their education. Studies demonstrate an engaged adult is critical for a student’s success. Thank you to all those individuals attending conferences and actively participating in the educational process of your child. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated.
For the 2017-18 school year, we have utilized a full regular school day on parent-teacher conference days. In addition to saving instructional time, there are a wide variety of other positive impacts on the system when utilizing the full day approach on parent-teacher conferences. As we continually reflect on our practices for the purpose of improvement, we have identified some tweaks to our full day strategy that will improve the overall flow of parent-teacher conferences in the future.
Working to best meet the needs of our parents and guardians, we have distributed a brief survey to inform us of which dismissal approach our parents most prefer for parent-teacher conferences. This feedback is critical, as we are in the initial stages of calendar development for the 2018-19 school year.
In the end, there is no one approach that everyone can agree to. However, we can all agree that being actively engaged in your child’s education can make a tremendous impact. Together, we can promote student success!
Coming up next month there will be no school on Friday, Nov. 10 for Veteran’s Day and Nov. 22-24 for the Thanksgiving break.
Go, Lynx!
