Supe's On: Planning for growth

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent
Working to proactively plan for our district’s future growth, we will be reconvening a Facility Review Committee in the Fall of 2018. The Facility Review Committee will be charged with assessing facility needs to support on-going growth, prioritizing facility needs, and formulating non-binding recommendations to the Brandon Valley Board of Education. I would note, all of the previously recommended projects from the 2013 Facility Review Committee have been completed.
In addition, we are in the design and planning phases for artificial turf at our outdoor activities complex. The most crucial benefit of the project for our students and programs is the increased usability of the space. The artificial turf project is tentatively scheduled to be completed by early August 2018.
As previously communicated, our district is engaging in a collaborative strategic planning process. In addition to utilizing focus groups, we will be holding two public meetings during the process. The strategic planning public meeting dates are Dec. 12, 2017 and April 24, 2018. Through the process, student achievement data, patron survey data, academic research, current practices, and best practices in education will be reviewed. Ultimately, the objective of the strategic planning process is the development of district goals and action strategies to further advance student outcomes. Together, we can promote an excellent education for our children.
Fall parent-teacher conferences will be later this month. If you have a child in school, please attend conferences; your active involvement is critical to your child’s success. Note, we will hold regular school days during conferences and busses will run normal schedules. A few other upcoming calendar items to note are that there will be no school Oct, 6, Oct. 20, and Nov. 10.
Lastly, congratulations to Robert Bennis Elementary for recently being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education – great work!
Go, Lynx!
