Supe's On: Learning made fun for BV teaching staff

By:
BV Supt. Dr. Jarod Larson

As outlined within the Brandon Valley School District Strategic Plan, we strive to support highly effective teachers, leaders, and staff. This work is directly led and supported by Sherri Nelson, director of instruction, and the Brandon Valley staff development team. Throughout the 2021-22 school year, professional development has been responsive to needs, as each respective level within our system has received training and differentiated opportunities for professional growth.

Included within the professional development plan this year was a team-building activity entitled the BVSD Amazing Race. The event was held in the afternoon on Friday, April 1. Staff members were placed on different teams that traveled to each of our school buildings in the district. Upon arrival at the schools, the teams were required to solve riddles which revealed a secret message.

Research demonstrates that social connections are a key component to a great working environment. Cooperative teams have greater productivity and creativity, all while having a greater accuracy of work. In addition to improving outcomes, the staff development event promoted connectedness and staff understanding of our district’s schools and facilities.

As a growing district, intentional efforts to promote connectedness amongst schools and staff are critical to maintain consistency within instructional protocols and curriculum.

Hats-off to Director Nelson and the staff development team on creating an innovative and fun activity to develop collegiality, promote collaboration, and foster connectedness and a greater understanding of the district.

Go Lynx!
