Supe's On: BVSD offering two options for return to learning

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent

After seeking input from families, staff and community, the Brandon Valley School District has developed a Return to Learning Plan. Parents have two options to choose from. The learning models provide families the flexibility to choose an instructional model to meet their needs during these uncertain times and reflects our District’s commitment to providing a high-quality educational experience, regardless of the setting. The Return to Learning Plan can be found in entirety on the Covid-19 website.

Traditional Learning Model

The Traditional Model represents a return to the school campus and the classroom where students will interact directly with their teacher(s) and classmates. The school day will follow the standard bell times and standard schedule that includes all the core classes and other subject areas. In short, it represents a return to the traditional school environment – with several significant changes involving enhanced health and safety precautions.

Distance Learning Model

The Distance Learning Model is a full-time learning experienced designed for families who do not yet feel comfortable sending their student(s) back to school on-site. In this learning model, student will independently work on assignments and maintain contact with their teacher using web-based platforms and tools, email, and phone calls. Parents choosing the Distance Learning Model must “opt-in” and complete the Distance Learning Registration Form by Friday, July 31.

Also included within the Return to Learning Plan is a Frequently Asked Questions component. Within the FAQ you will find specific answers to questions surrounding the topics of Academics, Health & Safety, Special Services, Meals, Transportation, and Student Activities.
