Supe's On: BVSD implements 3-phase 'back to school' plan

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent

In collaboration with state and local officials and drawing upon the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control, the Brandon Valley School District has developed a three-phase “Summer 2020 - Return to School Plan”, with the end goal of school beginning as scheduled in August.

Utilizing a phased approach will allow for the school district to implement best practices based on the current situation, allow for the timely re-evaluation of practices within each phase, and communicate in a timely manner that allows for necessary planning.

The absolute most critical component of the plan is a cooperative partnership with parents/guardians, staff, and students, where individuals commit to 1.) Stay home if sick; 2.) Practice good hygiene, (hand washing/sanitizing); 3.) Practice social distancing whereas possible.

If necessary, the Summer 2020 - Return to School Plan phase strategies may be altered in response to Covid-19 developments.

Key Points of Phase 1: June 2020

The following procedures are effective June 1-30, 2020. In accordance with the CDC, individuals are recommended to wear a cloth facemask and practice social distancing whereas possible.

• No non-essential out of district staff travel;

• No outside organization “indoor facility” use permitted (Excludes essential childcare services);

• All District-sponsored programming is voluntary;

• District-sponsored programming is allowed with the following criteria;

• Maximum number of 10 students/participants per facility space;

• District-sponsored “Academic Programming” is available to eligible students;

• District Sponsored “Activity Programming” is limited to Brandon Valley students grades 9-12 (for the 2020-21 school year);

• All BVSD facilities routinely sanitized/disinfected when district use is in session.

Additional information regarding the Summer 2020 – Return to School Plan is available on the district’s Covid-19 Information website.

Together, we can promote community health through healthy hygiene.
