Supe's On: BVSD distance learning report card published

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent

Included within our commitment to excellence in education is public transparency and the reporting of student achievement data. Recently, our Distance Learning Report Card was published and made available on our COVID-19 Information website, which can be found on the district website. Within the Distance Learning Report Card, you will find district-wide grade level information on engagement and results.

While there is no comparison to the quality of learning experience our children would have received on-site and in classrooms, we are extremely proud of our students and families’ commitment to education. The discipline to remain engaged during the closure and focus on learning is impressive. Parental engagement during the closure, and while in session, is a critical key to our students’ academic successes. Understanding there is always latitude for improvement, we are reviewing the Distance Learning process and results. Ultimately, we will work to grow and improve after thoughtful reflection.

As we continue to collaborate with state and local officials and draw upon the considerations of the Center for Disease Control, whereas practical and feasible, the Brandon Valley School District’s Three (3) Phase “Summer 2020 - Return to School Plan”, is approaching the half-way point of Phase I. It is wonderful to see students back in the classrooms and engaged in activities. Our ability to continue forward will be grounded in the cooperative partnership with students, families, and staff. The cooperative partnership requires individuals to complete the Daily Individual Health Screening Process prior to attendance at a school facility.

Utilizing a phased approach allows for the school district to implement best practices based on the current situation, allow for the timely re-evaluation of practices within each phase, and communicate in a timely manner that allows for necessary planning. If necessary, the Summer 2020 - Return to School Plan phase strategies may be altered in response to Covid-19 developments. Phase II, which begins on July 1, will be announced on Friday, June 19. All of the Return to School Plan information is available on the Covid-19 Information website.
