Supe's On: BVSD among top tiers for spending efficiency

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent
It is always a great time for reflection, but November and Thanksgiving serve as an ideal opportunity to express appreciation for those having a positive influence. I greatly appreciate our school district community. Reflecting upon our organizational success, the realization regarding the importance of the school – community relationship is only further enhanced. Schools thrive when the community thrives and vice versa. I am thankful for a community that has high expectations of its public schools, values the importance of education, and supports growth and the importance of proactive planning throughout our school district. Undoubtedly, we have challenges and obstacles to work through and overcome. However, together we can continue to build upon our foundation of excellence and move forward as a school district and community.
Effective and efficient clearly summarize FY19 for the Brandon Valley School District. In the analysis of FY19 (2018-19 school year) South Dakota Education Statistical Digest, the Brandon Valley School District has the lowest cost expenditure per student of the 10 largest school districts in South Dakota. Statewide, BV is in the top 4.5 percent of school districts in terms of efficiency when comparing cost per student.
2018-19 Cost Per Student
• Average South Dakota School District - $9,369
• Brandon Valley School District - $7,860
*Educational expenditures include: General, Capital Outlay, Special Education, and Pension Fund.
Top-quality stewardship of tax dollars, all while producing high-levels of student achievement, serves as an area of great pride in BV. As outlined within our district’s strategic plan, fiscal responsibility and student achievement has been, is, and will continue to be a clear priority within our school district. Go Lynx!
