Supe's On: Behind-the-scenes staff help schools shine

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, Brandon Valley School District superintendent
As the summer break winds to an end, I cannot help but be impressed at the amount and quality of work done by our buildings and grounds, maintenance, and custodial staffs. Over the last few short months in preparation for the coming school year, these valued individuals have maintained, prepared, and cleaned the nearly 1 million square feet of school buildings within the Brandon Valley School District. Their critical role makes providing a great education possible. Great work, and thank you!
Our middle school construction project is progressing well. The new classroom spaces (Smart Lab and music room) are scheduled to be fully operational for the first day of school. As originally scheduled, the entrance, office area, and restrooms are scheduled for completion in late October. The drop-off and pick-up process of middle school students will not be impacted by the construction. As construction is finalized throughout the fall, we ask that everyone slow down and take their time to ensure our students’ safety.
In addition to the Middle School project, there are a wide variety of improvements and maintenance projects being finalized prior to the start of the new school year. The track at Brandon Elementary has recently been improved. Previously, the track was gravel and it is now an asphalt surface. In addition to our students, the improvement will positively impact patrons that utilize the track to exercise. We do want to extend a special thank you to Alliance Communications for their financial support of the community improvement project through their “Keep the Change” program.
Lastly, do not forget to purchase your bus passes by Aug. 9. Thank you for your timely cooperation.
