For the second year, businesses in Splitrock Square have organized a good old-fashioned homecoming tailgate party.
“We hope it’s going to be monstrous,” said Jason Melcher of Ace Hardware, one of several Splitrock Square business hosts. “This is our way to give back to the community, and we’re all sports fans, so it’s just a perfect mix of being able to celebrate homecoming, have a good time and put on something for the community.”
The pre-homecoming event takes place from 4-6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in the parking lot in front of 212º - The Boiling Point.
“212º - and Mark (Fonder) - is allowing us to use that area, because last year we literally ran out of space for the amount of people that came,” Melcher said.
The spirit of homecoming will be accented with appearances by the BVHS drumline and cheerleaders, along with assistance from the Booster Club and the BVHS freshmen football team.
The event offers free food and plenty of family-friendly fun and fellowship. And there will be a container or two for freewill donations, which will go to the BV Booster Club “so they can do more stuff for the kids and all of the programs,” Melcher said.
The Splitrock Square business community intends to make this a yearly event.
“The feedback we received last year was really good,” Melcher said, “and that’s when we had a meeting a week after and said, ‘Let’s keep doing this every year because it was so much fun.’”
