Peddling Pokemon Pokemon enthusiast Lukas Rodne sells trading cards on Aspen Boulevard Friday afternoon. The 9-year-old entrepreneur, who has, “like a thousand cards, maybe,” is selling some of his current collection “basically, so I can buy more rare cards.” His mom said she was proud of him for bearing the heat. “He’s been asking for weeks,” she added. “I think it’s super cute.” Within his first hour in business, Lukas had two popsicles to stay cool. Presenting the colors The Charles R. Doman American Legion Auxiliary Unit 131 in Valley Springs is pleased to recognize Charlie and Nancy Brown of Brandon as the July recipient of the Presenting the Colors award. Charlie is an Army veteran, who was deployed to Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart (combat wounded) and the Bronze Star (heroic or meritorious achievement or service in a combat zone). Journey with the Journal A Brandon husband and wife, Dean and Nancy Pierson, recently returned from a “tremendous trip to Alaska” and they brought the Brandon Valley Journal with them. They’re pictured at Denali Park, which is filled with animals and awesome views, including the glacier, Denali. “A little fact,” the Piersons shared, “is that it used to be called ‘Mount McKinley,’” but is now referred as “Denali.” If you’re venturing out, take the Brandon Valley Journal along for the ride, snap a photo and submit it to us for publication in a future issue of your local newspaper.
