The Lynx club bowling teams opened their season Friday on the same lanes in Brookings that they’ll cap off their season on at the state tournament early next year. And if Friday’s result is an indication of things to come this year, the Lynx bowlers have a season of success stories ahead of them.
The young varsity 1 girls team pulled ouffa nip-and-tuck 13-12 victory. Seventh-grader Alexis Shea guided the Lady Lynx, rolling games of 185 and 186 on her way to a 512 series in her very first varsity event. Sophomore Kayla Watkins added a 179 game and 496 series. The Lady Lynx duo posted the top two scores for both teams.
The varsity 2 girls didn’t fare as well, dropping their match 16.5-8.5. Junior Alice Callahan led the way with a 124 game and 344 series.
Freshman Mel Jacobson registered the next highest game at 119, and twin Kayla Jacobson chipped in a 115.
BV’s varsity boys had their work cut out for themselves going up against the early-season favorite, the Brookings Bobcats.
Junior Trey Reindl scored a 202 game to support his 516 series, but it was not enough as the Lynx varsity 1 boys fell 24-1.
Senior Darian Blue guided the varsity 2 team with a team-best 207 game and 583 series, and freshman Hunter Meinert added his all-time best game of 203 and best-ever series of 566. Sadly, they finished on the downside of the 22-3 outcome.
The junior varsity boys were led by senior Austin “Ozzy” Erickson’s 189 game, senior Noah Holm’s 173 contribution, and junior Colton Bultje’s 169 game.
BV head coach Rich Blue said the Lynx bowlers received many compliments from the other coaches, and parents about the level of sportsmanship displayed, even in defeat.
“Lynx pride was showing with the team today,” he said.
