The BV dance team took third at the BV Invite last Tuesday.

BVDT takes third; cheer ties for sixth at Oct. 2 home meet
The Lady Lynx competitive dance team had their highest-scoring competition of the season in front of their home crowd Tuesday, with a third-place finish at the Brandon Valley Invitational Oct. 2.
The Lynx earned 269 points, five behind grand champion Sioux Falls Washington (274) and less than three points shy of runner-up Dakota Valley (270.67).
BV took first in jazz – consistently, their highest-scoring routine this season.
“We had an amazing jazz performance, yet still have some work to do,” said BV dance coach Tracy Kuhn. “It’s not solid, and we are pushing to reach a near perfect score in the next two weeks. The feedback from both fans and judges was positive – a definite crowd favorite.”
In the kick division, Dakota Valley edged the Lynx into second by less than two points, and BV finished third in pom. The Lynx don’t compete in hip hop, which went to Washington.
“Our kick routine is still in the works. Our score improved, which is what we need to see going into our conference competitions and state.  However, we have more work to do to ensure we are soaring in this division to ultimately score higher than the hip hop scores,” Kuhn said.
BV’s pom routine saw major improvements at the home meet, but the scores didn’t reflect them, she said.
“I’m extremely proud of how far this team has progressed this season and am hopeful the judges will see their amazing talents when it most counts in the upcoming weeks,” Kuhn added.
On the other half of the floor Tuesday at Brandon Valley High School, the Lady Lynx cheer team tied Brookings for sixth place, with 230.50 points.
“The girls had an extremely solid opening, performed a great cheer, and hit their pyramid,” said BV cheer coach Katee Lane. “There are always things that need to improve, and our team always works hard to make each performance better than the one before.”
Sioux Falls Roosevelt tallied 277 points to win the cheer title, followed closely by O’Gorman with 275.50. Sioux Valley took third, with a team score of 265.50.
“The BV Invite always adds a little pressure with it being our home mat, added fan support, and the last invite we have prior to championship events,” Lane said.
Lane coached the Lady Lynx to a state title last fall, as well as an ESD Conference win and second place finish at the Metro Conference.
BV’s cheer team heads into the post-season as the reigning state and ESD Conference champion and Metro Conference runner-up.
“At this point, our difficulty is where it needs to be, so we will work on execution and small visual changes for the remainder of the season,” she said.
Led by coach Tracy Kuhn, BV’s dance team steps into the post-season as the reigning ESD champion in addition to being the AA state and ESD runner-up in 2017 state.
BV’s cheer and dance teams competed in the Metro on Monday, and aim to retain their ESD titles on Thursday at the league event, which is hosted by Harrisburg.
Nine teams compete in the ESD Conference: BV, Watertown, Harrisburg, Huron, Brookings, Aberdeen Central, Mitchell, Yankton and Pierre.
In the Metro Conference, BV competes against three Sioux Falls public school programs – Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt and O’Gorman.
The Lady Lynx cheer and dance teams take nine-day hiatus before hosting the AA cheer and dance state championships starting off at 11 a.m. Oct. 20 at BVHS.
