Seven strokes keep BV golfers from ESD runner-up finish

Competing for the Eastern South Dakota Boys’ Golf Conference title on a chilly 44-degree day at Mitchell’s Lake View Country Club, the Lynx overcame the conditions and stayed focus to capture fourth place.  

“There were times late in the round that we could have let the scores get away from us,” explained Brandon Valley head coach Todd Geerdes, “however, we responded and finished the round off. Sometimes you don’t have your A game, but we ground it out all day to finish with our second-best score of the year.”

BV’s 318 team tally was just seven strokes out of second place. The Yankton Bucks claimed the crown behind their 303 total.

BV once again was led by junior Emmet Hansen, who produced a 75 to tie for fifth place. With seven holes to play, Hansen sat at 5-over-par. He mastered the last six holes, coming away 2-under-par to post the impressive fourth-place ending along with ESD All-Conference honors. 

Lynx senior Austin Swenson alsohad a good day on the lins. He finished in a tie for eighth place behind his 78 total and Swenson also landed on the ESD All-Conferece roster.

Rounding out the team score was a solid 80 from Logan Kelling (tie for 17th place) and Matt Gusso’s 85, which was good enough to tie for 25th place.

Watertown’s Jake Olson nabbed the ESD’s 2019 medalist honors. He finished the with a 1-under-par 71.

Coming in as the No. 4 seed, the Lynx were schedued to compete for the Metro Conference crown on Tuesday at Elmwood.

The team wraps up their 2019 season Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7 and 8 at the AA state tournament, which will be played Hillcrest Country Club in Yankton.
