Senior Spotlight: Grace Bowar

Grace Bowar
Grace Bowar will long remember the lip dub Brandon Valley High School students created during homecoming week last fall.
“Everybody had streamers, tape and markers. What could go wrong?” she asks.
Grace has other interests at BVHS, too. She played softball for four years, is a two-year member of HOSA and Best Buddies. She’s also involved in Mu Alpha Theta and National Honor Society, and this past fall, she served as a mentor for junior kindergartners at Brandon Elementary.
The daughter of Christie and Jeff Bowar is also involved in a variety of community endeavors. She’s volunteered at The Banquet, the food pantry, with God’s Work Our Hands, St. Francis Home, Lunch is Served, Vacation Bible School, the Ronald McDonald House and more.
Last summer, she volunteered at Sanford Health and she’s braved the chilly water of Brandon’s Polar Plunge two years, and planned to make the leap again this year before it was cancelled.
Grace is headed for South Dakota State University this fall, where she intends to major in nursing and minor in psychology.
For years, Grace has packed her own lunch for school, so she lists “leftovers” as her favorite school lunch.
Given the opportunity to have with anyone, she picks her grandparents.
“I never really knew them before they passed away, however, I have heard plenty of stories that make me feel like I do. My family has always been my rock and my role model. Meeting and eating with my grandparents would complete a part of me I have yet to know, and if they are anything like their son – my dad – they will have a sense of humor and smiles that light up the room,” she said.
Her list of favorite sports teams include the Chicago Cubs, the Minnesota Vikings and the Oklahoma Sooners women’s college softball team. She likes the color purple, the movie Footloose, and country and oldies top her music preferences.
