The Brandon Valley school board discussed strategic planning, the middle school’s new Smart Lab and construction there at its Sept. 11 meeting.
Supt. Dr. Jarod Larson advised the board that construction is on schedule at BVMS, with the new front offices on target for Oct. 31 completion.
Larson also updated the board on the district’s strategic planning process. In the coming weeks, he said, a steering committee will analyze data, feedback from focus groups and public meetings, and the district’s operating principle, mission and best practices to determine the BVSD’s short- and long-term goals.
“Ultimately, we will develop components for our strategic plan, goals, action strategies and then measurement methods or matrix for achieving or determining if we’ve achieved those goals,” Larson said.
BVMS principal Brad Thorson advised the board that the school’s new Smart Lab is up and running.
“Our kids are enjoying it. They are doing things already that are amazing,” Thorson said. “It’s really cool. It’s fun to be in there.”
The middle school Smart Lab is the second for the school district. Brandon Valley Intermediate School gained one in 2015.
Annual school report cards from the South Dakota Department of Education will be released to the public Sept. 19.
