Ronald Austin Rollag, son of Vernon and Vivian (Schneekloth) Rollag, was born May 9, 1945 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Ron grew up on the family farm near Valley Springs, S.D., and attended Sunny Wood Country School. He was active in 4-H, baseball and enjoyed annual fishing trips to Minnesota with his parents. Ron earned an early reputation for his strong character and fun nature.

After graduating from high school, Ron joined the Army National Guard in Sioux Falls and served with the 147th Field Artillery Headquarters Battery. A proud veteran, he served from 1967 to 1971 and met many lifelong friends.

Ron was united in marriage with Diane Alsgaard on April 7, 1973, near Garretson. They began their life together in Brandon, S.D., where they raised their two children. Ron began employment at the Sioux Falls Stockyards with Siouxland Farmers Livestock, where he excelled in livestock sales over several decades. Ron was known to everyone at the Yards as “Rock”, a hard nose that wouldn’t back down. He cared for his faithful farmer and rancher friends and customers.

Ron married Shari Sorensen on Aug. 2, 1997. The couple enjoyed time on the acreage they owned and lived north of Sioux Falls. Together, they opened a used furniture business where they bought, sold and delivered across the city. Ron eventually went to work for and retired from BPI as a truck driver.

Ron loved fishing, camping and golf with friends. He followed sports of all types, especially baseball. Ron loved his son, daughter and grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. He spent over 20 years with friends at campgrounds in both Chamberlain and Platte, and most recently in his winter home of Fort Mohave, Ariz. Ron also loved spending time with friends. If you met Ron, you would never forget him. He will be dearly missed by many.

Grateful for having shared his life are two children, Michael Rollag and his wife, Leah, Brandon, and Laura Rollag and Casey Kuhnert, Tea; two step-sons, Scott Sutter and Jeff Sutter; 13 grandchildren, Kailey, Austin, Caylan, Maia, Cole, Cael, KarLee, Michael, Tony, Brandi, Cole, Corde, and Cade; and many other relatives and friends.
