Robert “Bobby” Swenson Jr., 66

Robert “Bobby” Swenson Jr., 66, of Brandon, S.D., passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital following complications from COVID-19.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at Brandon Lutheran Church in Brandon.

Robert “Bobby” Swenson Jr., son of Robert Sr. and Alphie (Wallenberg) Swenson was born Aug. 31, 1954, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He grew up in Corson with his beloved parents and six brothers and sisters. Bobby graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 1973. During high school he worked for numerous farmers in the area and for his uncle, Clair Swenson, at the Corson Elevator.

Bobby was united in marriage to Holly Sittig on Aug. 27, 1993 at Baltic Lutheran Church in Baltic, S.D.

Bobby’s work with heavy equipment started at a young age when he operated his father’s road grader in the winter months, pushing snow for area townships north of Brandon. He worked for Brandon Materials and Concrete Materials for 40 plus years, driving cement truck and heavy equipment. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed his co-workers and the many contractors he had contact with over the years. He was known under many alias’s including: Jr., Suey, Bobby Love and “The Hardest Working Guy in South Dakota”. He was always certain to have a good time when around his family and friends at Lake Madison or at “the cabin”. He loved music and was known for his dance moves and antics when he had an audience!

Bobby had a kind heart, was a great friend, a devoted husband and a loving father who was especially close to his son Lucas. He loved his whole family and will be missed by all who knew him.
Bobby fought long and hard to beat (the cruel) COVID-19 virus, but in the end, it took its toll on his body. On Jan. 2, 2021, he died peacefully with his wife and son at his side. We have peace knowing that Bobby is with his Lord and Savior and made whole again.

Blessed be his memory.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Holly, of Brandon; son, Lucas Swenson, Sioux Falls; daughters, Ashley and Jennifer and their families; siblings, Jeff Swenson of Brandon, Charlene (Paul) Poncelet Swenson of Sioux Falls, Julie (Kevin) Hauger of Brandon, and Mike (Peggy) Swenson of Corson; brothers-in-law, Carl Hoskins of Deadwood, Bob (Ann) Sittig of Baltic, and Brian (Betsy) Sittig of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Deb Sittig of Baltic; mother-in-law, Dorothy Sittig of Baltic; 12 nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family and friends.
