From the Pulpit: Peace like you've never known

When my wife and I moved to Brandon, the first thing we wanted to do was to get to know Brandon. We would talk to people around Brandon and ask them why it was that they moved to Brandon. Do you know what the No. 1 answer was by far? People move to Brandon because it is a peaceful place.
The repetition of that same answer got me thinking – we all have a desire for peace and we try to find peace wherever we can in life. Where do you find that peace? Maybe for you it is a moment of quiet in a typically loud day. Maybe for you it is time relaxing after a long day of work. Maybe for you it is sitting in the deer stand as the sun comes up.
We are all looking for peace, yet the peaceful moments that we find seem to be so fleeting. The quiet turns back to loud, the relaxing turns back to working, and the deer stand turns back to the daily grind. Your desire for peace cannot be solved by anything in this world. Your desire for peace can only be found in Jesus. This peace is a different kind of peace, not fleeting, but enduring, not temporary, but eternal.
Paul writes this in Philippians 4:7, “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
The peace of Christ is peace that guards. This is not a feeling, but a reality. It’s the reality that you are forgiven in Christ. It’s the reality that through Christ, you are right with God. It’s the reality that heaven is yours through Christ.
The peace of Christ guards you because no matter what happens in this life, no one can take this peace away from you. This is enduring, everlasting peace. May that peace be your peace!
