From the Pulpit: Looking for Peace

So often we seek peace in our lives through manipulating our external circumstances. Will it come through our material possessions? We pursue them as if they might provide peace. Will it come through financial security? We work as if it might. Will it come through intimate relationships? We long for that kind of intimacy as if it will satisfy our deep longings for peace.

If peace is dependent on such external circumstances, it will not be sustainable. Peace is really a spiritual reality. When we find spiritual peace with God we receive the emotional peace of God. What we find in the Bible is that Jesus came to give us spiritual and emotional peace.

John 14:27 Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”

Psalm 29:11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

Jesus, referred to as the Prince of Peace, desires to bless his people with peace. There is an incredible hope that comes with the promises we receive concerning peace. Are you looking for peace? I invite you to join me this month as we pursue and seek after the peace we ultimately are longing for. Next week we will look at how to adjust our focus to see clearly where true peace comes from.
