Post 131 takes two from Huron

Jill Meier, Journal editor
Brandon Valley Post 131 nabbed a pair of road wins June 3, coming away from Huron with 8-1 and 5-1 victories. The late game went just five innings, and the victory won’t be reflected in BV’s win-loss record.
Post 131 was clicking on all cylinders in the first game, sparking the scoreboard for two runs in the first inning. Thomas Scholten got the scoring started when he drew a walk to plate a run.
The Lynx notched three runs in the fifth inning. Lake Terveer and Dayne Peyton both drove in runs in the frame.
“At the dish, Parker Reed and Terveer seemed to be seeing the ball well. Every time they came up they had great at bats,” Post 131 coach Jeremy Van Heel said.
Reed turned in a 2-for-4 day at the plate, and Peyton had three stolen bases to his credit.
Braden Wills got the win on the mound for BV. He surrendered one run on four hits over five innings, striking out two Huron batters and walking one. Ethan Kjenstad threw two innings in relief.
“Braden Wills did a great job on the mound today,” Van Heel said. “He competed by living in the strike zone and not getting behind hitters. When pitchers throw strikes, the defensive play is always better because they are ready and alert. It is a win for all.”
Angel V suffered the loss for Huron. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and four runs while striking out four.

BV 4, Huron 1
Post 131 fired up the offense in the opening frame, taking advantage of Huron error to plate a run.
Connor Knecht took charge of the pitching duties to earn the win. He lasted four innings, allowing no runs on two hits, striking out five and walking one Huron batter. Terveer threw one inning in relief.
Daynon H. took the loss for Post 7. He gave up four runs on three hits over five innings, and struck out five BV batters.
The Post 131 bats were led by Terveer, Kjenstad and Dylan Kirkeby, all recording a hit.
The Lynx played error-free ball in the field, with Dawson Skorczewski having a hand in five plays.
“It is always good to get wins, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us if we want to be one of the top teams in the state. I know these guys want it, so let’s get back to work.”
