Post 131 goes 2-2 at Creighton Prep-hosted invitational
You have to have an invitation to play in the Creighton Prep (Nebraska) weekend tourney, and once again, Brandon Valley received the invite and came away with a pair of wins – one being a regional win – and a pair of losses.
“This invite tournament you have to earn yourself to be there,” said Lynx head coach Jeremy Van Heel.
BV posted wins against Lincoln East (Neb.) and the Rapid City Hardhats, and fell to Rocky Mountain and Fargo.
BV 7, Lincoln East 0
BV Post 131 defeated Lincoln East 7-0 in the invite’s opener Saturday, as two Lynx pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
“Cole Hupke threw five solid innings and Caleb Zerr finished it off,” Van Heel said.
BV secured the victory thanks to four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught came from home runs by Joe Kolbeck and Jaxon Haase and by Dayne Peyton.
The Lynx ramped up their offense in the first inning on a Connor Knecht single, scoring a run. BV tacked on four runs in the sixth behind the big bats by Peyton, Kolbeck, and Haase, all driving in runs in the inning.
A single by Josh Senstock in the second inning was a positive for Lincoln East.
Hupke was credited with the victory. He allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings of work, striking out four and walking one. Zerr threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last six outs to earn the save.
Ryan Clementi took the loss for Lincoln East. He surrendered one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings, striking out two BV batters.
The Lynx smacked two home runs on the day, both coming in the sixth inning. The first was credited to Kolbeck and Haase followed his lead.
The Lynx registered 10 hits in the game. Michael Chevalier, Kolbeck, Knecht, and Peyton all had multiple hits for BV. Peyton, Knecht, Kolbeck, and Chevalier all generated two hits to lead the BV offense.
“Offensively, we hung in there and hung in there and hung in there, and finally there was an opening in the fifth and a couple of back to back home runs in the sixth,” Van Heel said.
