O'G controls BV on home courts

Although O’Gorman’s Daniel Sebata (No. 1 singles) was sidelined by an injury, the Knights proved to be tough competition for the Lady Lynx tennis team on Aug. 29, as O’G won 7-2.

BV’s two victories came in flight 1 singles and doubles, where Tanna Lehfeldt had a role in both victories. Lehfeldt made quick work over substitute, Ella Barnard, 6-0, 6-1. She also teamed with Sydney Pelletier in doubles action, dismissing Addy Jackson and Barnard, 6-4, 6-1.

Pelletier had an amazing match against Maddie Nguyen in flight 2 singles, taking her to a third-set match tiebreaker.

“Despite playing some of her best tennis of the season to date,” coach Adam Rothenberger said, she finally fell 12-10 in the tiebreak. 

Adriauna Alexander, armed with a new slice serve, nearly took one of O’G’s new additions, Sage Barnard, to a third-set match tiebreaker. Alexander tested Barnard, who won 6-1, 7-5.

“It was a pretty nice accomplishment for the eighth grader,” he added.

Huron Quad

It was a mixed bag of results for the Lady Lynx at Saturday’s Huron quadrangular, where the team picked up a win and lost two, a 9-0 blanking by Mitchell and a down-to-the-wire 5-4 loss to Aberdeen Central. 

“Mitchell came ready to play - moving well and being aggressive - and outplayed us in every aspect of the game,” Rothenberger said. 

The 5-4 loss to Aberdeen was another tough loss. 

“We missed early opportunities to control some of the matches by losing a lot of deuce points and the Eagles proved to be more resilient than we expected,” he said.

The Lynx ended the long, hot day by defeating the inexperienced Tigers, 8-1.

Rothenberger said Lehfeldt continues to show she is a force to be reckoned with at flight 1 by winning two of her three matches in both singles and doubles. Schultz and Marie Pelleiter also had successful days by winning two of their three singles matches; Pelleiter also picked up her first varsity doubles win of season at flight 3.

The Lynx host the two-day BV Jamboree on Friday and Saturday, with play beginning at 9 a.m. both days.
