Missing girl found after 45-minute search

Brandon Police were dispatched about 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 to a home on Granite Circle, Brandon, after it was learned that an 11-year-old girl had left her residence without permission.

Brandon Police, along with members of the Brandon Fire Department and Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department, joined forces in the search. The Brandon Fire Department was critical in helping locate the girl with their UTV and deployed extensive personnel was critical in the efforts in assisting with locating the female, according to Brandon Police Chief Joe Weir.
The girl was located approximately 45 minutes later in a heavily-wooded area west of her home, suffering from cold exposer. Lt. Jamie Steffel, along with Sgt. Alex Palmer, carried the girl out of the wooded area to a waiting ambulance, at which time she was reunited with her family.
