Minnehaha County: June 16

THE MINNEHAHA COUNTY COMMISSION CONVENED AT 9:00 A.M. June 8, 2021, pursuant to adjournment on June 1, 2021. Commissioners present were: Barth, Bender, Beninga, and Karsky. Heiberger was present via zoon. Also present were Madison Roberts, Deputy Auditor, Eric Bogue, Chief Civil Deputy State’s Attorney, and Daniel Haggar, State’s Attorney.

MOTION by Bender, seconded by Beninga, to approve the agenda. 5 ayes.  

PUBLIC HEARING AND 1ST READING: 

Eric Bogue, Chief Civil Deputy State’s Attorney, presented to the Commission a 1st Reading on the proposed ordinance for IM-26 Medical Marijuana. The ordinance will cover the licensing and cultivation of medical marijuana within Minnehaha County. It does not cover the consumptions of medical marijuana as that will be legal effective July 1, 2021. 

PUBLIC COMMENT: 

Sarah Koob, 4509 S. Tennis Lane, #3, Sioux Falls, presented to the commission her thoughts of this temporary ordinance. Stating it would give the State of South Dakota to continue delaying the licensing for businesses regarding Medical Marijuana. 

Commissioners Bender, Beninga, and Heiberger were in favor of this ordinance being adopted. 

Commissioners Karsky and Barth had questions for Eric Bouge, Chief Civil Deputy State’s Attorney, regarding the problems from consumption versus selling, timing, and disease prevention. 

MOTION by Barth, seconded by Bender, to adjourn. 5 ayes.  

The Commission adjourned until 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 15, 2021.
