Mia-Michelle Mentzer, 12

Mia-Michelle Lillian Mentzer, 12, of Valley Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.
A memorial service celebrating Mia-Michelle’s life was held Aug. 12 at Celebration United Methodist Church in Brandon.
Mia-Michelle Lillian Mentzer was a fighter. She began life with daunting challenges that were only exceeded by her willpower. She did not succumb to the odds given to her at birth and grew into an inspirational child who impacted countless lives in her 12 years here. People were drawn to her because of who she was: a personality so unique and loving, everyone who met her understood how truly special she was.
Music was immensely important to her. And oh, how she could make you burst into fits with her dry, clever wise-cracking. She was an expert prankster, and no one was safe from Mia’s schemes. She was kind and gentle and helped others – all while fighting her unending battles without complaint. She had every reason to give in, but that wasn’t Mia. There was such a great strength to her. Many people in this world are gifted, but in the case of Mia, she was a gift.
She was loved by so many people, including her mother, Britney Reis, stepfather, Dan Wood, and father, Jeff Mentzer; her siblings, Lainee, Dabria, Devyn, Elby, Mayhem and Jagger; and countless family members and friends.
If love could have saved her, she would have lived forever.
Funeral arrangements were handled by George Boom Funeral Home, Brandon.
